Ground Fault and Equipment Leakage
Circuit Interrupters and Sensing Modules

In an exclusive business relationship agreement with North Shore Safety LTD., Airpax Corporation will now provide our customers with LINEGARD® ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI), equipment leakage circuit interrupters (ELCI), and ground fault sensing modules.

Ground fault: Should equipment or a person come in contact with a live (hot) wire, they become a path to ground, the result could be electrical current passing through their body, possibly resulting in damage, injury or death.

Typical GFCI's and ELCI's utilize latch-type mechanisms that can fail in the closed position, preventing the contacts from opening in a fault condition, putting human life and equipment in jeopardy. North Shore Safety (NSS) products utilize an electromechanical design that is immune to high mechanical shock and vibration, and if failure occurs, the contacts failsafe open, protecting the person or equipment from electrical shock as a result of ground fault. In addition, NSS products include added safety features, with options like manual reset for power loss and fault conditions, along with many NSS products being capable of achieving UL NEMA 6P compliance (withstand 600 psi of water spray and submersion in 6 ft of water for 24 hours minimum).

General Description :

North Shore Safety’s Ground Fault Sensing Module operates in tandem with a UL 489 hydraulic magnetic branch circuit breaker. The sensing module monitors an electrical circuit via an external differential current transformer. Upon a ground fault, it actively severs the load by means of an Airpax hydraulic magnetic circuit breaker (LEL Series) with an integral shunt coil.

All electrical circuits with voltages from any current-carrying conductor of 125VAC to ground are UL 943 Listed (GFCIs) while all other circuits with current-carrying conductors greater than 125VAC are UL 1053 Compliant (ELCIs). Custom trip levels (ie. greater than 6mA) for ELCIs are available through the factory. Additionally, custom breakers with various response delays are available (standard CB-trip delay for over-current is “motor-start”).

Product is available with automatic or manual “safe-start” reset features. The enclosure, when mounted with the supplied gasket, achieves a UL NEMA 4X wet location rating (withstands 600psi of direct water spray and submersion in 6 ft of water for 24 hours minimum). This module and breaker system is ideal for portable generator integration protecting all outlets on a generator and meeting the proposed requirements for generators under Underwriter Laboratory (U.L.) Standard UL2201 UL/cUL 943 Listed and UL 1053 Compliant.

The patented LineGard Panel Mount Utility GFCI (GFCI Series PGFE) saves time and money by combining both internal and external control panel utility outlets into a single assembly.

The assembly is entirely GFCI-Protected with the TEST and RESET buttons accessible to maintenance personnel from the outside of the control panel. This unit offers the conveniences of internal control panel accessory power (long an industry standard) as well as external accessory power, while satisfying the NFPA 79 Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery mandating that control panel utility outlets have GFCI protection. All of this is offered in one NEMA 4X rated package (this feature satisfies NFPA 79, 16.1.1(6) & 16.1.2).

In addition, electrical safety procedures mandated by NFPA 70e can now be addressed in a far safer, cost-effective manner. The LineGard Panel Mount Utility GFCI eliminates the risk and cost of maintenance personnel performing the required monthly GFCI “live power” functional test (NFPA 70e requires personnel to don protective clothing and gear, turning a simple 30 second test into a 30 minute task).

The LineGard Panel Mount Utility GFCI gives you accessory power flexibility, convenience and above all, safety, in one compact package.

General Description :

This Differential Current Clamp assists in the analysis and trouble-shooting of ground-fault problems within an electrical system.

The unit works by converting a current imbalance within an electrical circuit to a voltage output which can be measured by a standard volt meter (1mA leakage = 1mVAC meter reading). Simply clamp the device around all current-carrying conductors including neutral (if applicable) while powering the circuit. Set the volt meter to mVAC; the mVAC reading is numerically equal to the mA leakage of the electrical circuit.

This device is ideal in diagnosis of ground-fault leakage contributors when an electrical system consists of more than one sub-circuit (ie. pump circuit, heater circuit, control circuit, etc.).

The Differential Current Clamp also defines the trip threshold parameters for circuitry requiring GFCI/ELCI protection, thus providing the required ground-fault specifications for the application.
